Peptide identity and purity are not the same result

Why responsible quality review keeps molecular identity, chromatographic purity and other quality attributes separate.

An identity test evaluates whether analytical observations are consistent with the intended molecule. A purity method evaluates the relative composition observed under defined conditions. A strong result in one category does not automatically answer the other.

Chromatographic purity is method-dependent. Detection wavelength, column, gradient, integration rules and sample preparation all influence the reported profile. The result should therefore be read together with the method and chromatogram rather than as an isolated percentage.

Research teams should also identify which questions remain outside the reported scope. Net peptide content, residual solvents, water, counterions, elemental impurities, endotoxin and bioburden may require separate methods depending on the intended lawful research protocol.
