System suitability comes before sample interpretation
Why a sample result needs evidence that the analytical system was performing as intended.
A sample result is only as credible as the analytical system used to generate it. System-suitability checks provide evidence that the instrument and method were capable of performing the intended measurement during the run.
The relevant checks depend on the procedure. They may address repeatability, resolution, sensitivity, peak shape or other method-specific characteristics. Passing criteria should be defined before results are interpreted.
A batch record should therefore connect the sample result to the applicable system-suitability evidence. Missing, failed or unexplained checks are not administrative details; they are reasons to pause interpretation and release.

- Identify the procedure-specific suitability criteria
- Confirm criteria were set before interpretation
- Link the sample to the analytical run
- Review failures and deviations
- Withhold release when suitability is unresolved
